I think that it is ironic, that the only time we can get bipartisan agreement on anything is when members of congress are peeing their pants in anticipation, while being hell bent on revoking our constitutional rights. This kind of knee jerk reaction by our so called representatives, has cost this country so much of our individual liberty over the last 20 years especially since 9/11. “Shall not be infringed” Sounds pretty straight forward to me, but we have to fight this constitutional battle every time there is a mass shooting. The Democrat Party has become a vile, disgusting vehicle for the propagation of evil and blatant acts of violence. The Republican Party is not much better, because their leadership just stands by an allows the shredding of the Constitution to take place because they have no principles, and the principles that they are said to have, only exist in theory as they are not practiced. There is only a handful of Republicans that are acting as they should and the rest of them are a disgrace. The good ones are not in positions of leadership and they do not head any committees so they really have no opportunity to flex any muscle on behalf of the American people. Senate Republicans are now jumping onboard for the passage of a Red Flag Law.
So now we have this law being proposed, and what it will include no one knows. This type of legislation usually involves giving a judge authorization to order confiscation of one’s firearms with no due process, and with no more than a suggestion by a family member or friend that is showing concern. There are far too many opportunities for the circumvention of due process, in cases where complaints are made about an individual and those complaints are not substantiated. How do you decide who to deprive of liberty, based on a he said she said situation? If this system is implemented, it will be abused by those looking to get back at that neighbor, or that ex-spouse that you feel wronged you in some way.
These are all problems in this vitriolic climate that we find ourselves in, but let’s talk about the real issue here when it comes to the pitfalls that would exist with his type of law, government abuse. I do not play the partisan game, but you have to acknowledge the violent rhetoric coming from the Democrat Party as they continue to meltdown over trump in the White House. Any attempt to accuse the Republican Party of the same is a picture perfect example of psychological projection. So, here is the scenario, we pass a red flag law, and in several years we have a Democrat President that wants to arrest everyone with conservative values and ideology. We have members of congress recently who have called for laws restricting speech online, so this is not that unrealistic. This Democrat, or maybe even a so called moderate Republican in the white House decides that people that support the US Constitution are a threat to society. Or better yet a bunch of citizens get together and sign a petition to round up the conservatives/libertarians. The media would jump on board, the universities would continue their brain washing, and politicians would be bullied and/or blackmailed into supporting such measures. It sounds very cliché to say it, but we have to be aware of these “slippery slopes” in the form of unintended consequences that come with these legislative reactions to tragedy. This awareness has to be there before legislative action is taken, not years later when it is too late to recover. These incremental jabs that are taken at individual liberty have really taken a toll on constitutional governing, and in most cases, entire sections are omitted or ignored in order for Uncle Sam to usurp more authority over our lives. The Patriot Act was done in this knee jerk manner. This is why it is very important to educate our young people on the Constitution and our God given rights. The people do not ask questions because they do not know our history and they do not know the principles upon which we were founded. Knowledge is power, and ignorance is not bliss, it makes you a slave.
